Ruth Tiffer Sotomayor is a Senior Environmental Specialist at the World Bank for the Latin American and Caribbean region. Ruth has a Master’s Degree in Natural Resources Management and another in Environmental Engineering. She is an expert in river ecology. She has more than 20 years of experience working in environmental assessment and management of hydropower projects and other type of infrastructures.
Ruth is a project manager at the World Bank of projects on biodiversity, forest restoration, watershed management, climate change, dam safety and mining remediation. Ruth also works as World Bank Safeguard Policies specialist and oversees their implementation in infrastructure projects financed by the Bank in the sectors of energy, water, agriculture, transportation, and rural development. Ruth is the Technical Assistance Manager that has supported the Government of Costa Rica for the application of the Hydropower Sustainability Assessment Protocol in the Reventazón hydropower plant.
