Richard Taylor is the Executive Director of the International Hydropower Association (IHA) since 2001. Since 2015, he has also served as Chief Executive Officer of the IHA group of not-for-profit companies.
He has been involved in the water and energy sectors since 1985. He holds graduate studies on Earth Science and Water Resources from the University of London. He also has postgraduate studies in hydropower engineering, renewable energy systems and sustainable development. He has written and edited numerous technical papers and periodicals on hydropower and dams. In 2002, he became a Fellow of the Energy Institute in the United Kingdom.
He has been engaged in the United Nations initiatives on water (WWDR and UNEP), energy (UNIDO and UNDESA) and climate change (UNESCO and IPCC). He has participated in the work of the World Bank Group, International Renewable Energy Alliance, REN21, International Energy Agency, World Energy Council, World Water Council, Climate Investment Funds and the Climate Bonds Initiative.
